About Bla Bla Français
Had months or years of French, but still can't talk ?
Are you incapable of expressing yourself in French, even in the most basic situations ?
It’s NOT because you’re bad at learning languages.
In most French methods and websites, speaking skills are a second-class citizen !
Why ? because spoken language is unstructured, difficult to grasp, difficult to teach.
Most methods approach listening and speaking like a verbal version of reading and writing.
But the language we speak every day is VERY different from the language we write.
You CAN'T learn French speaking from reading and writing !
Teachers are also reluctant to teach spoken language because it's considered “familiar” language.
Yet, that’s primarily how native people speak, every day, everywhere!
Those are the reasons we've created Bla Bla Français!
Bla Bla Français focuses exclusively on oral skills, that is, listening and speaking, for real life.
No grammar rules. No vocabulary lists. No writing.
Children and self-taught adults learn new languages through real-life context.
They guess the meaning of phrases from situations, gestures, people, objects ...
They memorize complete phrases which they associate with situations they have been through, creating a direct connexion in their brain.
Then they automatically re-apply these phrases, like copy-paste, in similar situations.
Phrases learned this way are NEVER forgotten and naturally re-employed.
For example, you may naturally say something like “J'irais bien manger un morceau, pas toi ?” just because you've heard it in your everyday life.
It's automatic, instinctive, and mostly unconscious.
By contrast, it is very unnatural to analytically construct sentences by consciously aggregating vocabulary, tense conjugation and grammar rules.
Yet when it comes to speaking, that´s what most French learning methods expect you to do.
Likewise, learning by translating from your own native language just doesn't work.
Best case, you’ll end up “sounding like a book”, or if you translate from your native language, like a foreign speaker.
Worst case, nothing will come out of your brain, and mouth !
So, how does Bla Bla Français do it ?
We build a unique library of French conversation videos with cool characters in common life situations.
The videos are short and entertaining.
When you first watch a video dialogue, you are not expected to understand all the phrases. You just try to get a grasp of the overall situation.
You watch the video a couple of times to familiarize yourself with the dialogue and see how much of the meaning you can guess on your own.
Then you work though different versions of the dialogue designed to help you understand more precisely what the characters are saying.
As you progress through the videos, you gain a pretty good understanding of the dialogue even if you don’t understand every single word.
A series of exercise videos then help you memorize, pronounce, and re-use key expressions and constructions, focusing exclusively on speaking skills.
By watching each of the successive versions and exercises, you end up memorizing most of the content in the dialogue.
You’ll be surprised how these phrases will then come back to your brain unconsciously without effort when you find yourself in similar situations.
Learning a foreign language is hard work, and speaking is no exception.
But it doesn’t have to be painful. With Bla Bla Français, you can have fun and let your brain do the learning.
